View/print ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN

Welcome to the kindergarten! I continue to say, “ I am the luckiest one to be a kindergarten teacher”. It keeps me humble because even now I do not know all the answers. Most adults, when they think of kindergarten, think of ABC’s and counting and growing flowers in flower pots. When I think of kindergarten I think of making friends, sharing, taking turns, cleaning up your own messes… Nowadays kindergarten is a combination of both. If a child is not comfortable with himself in taking turns, cleaning up a mess, making friends then learning ABC’s and 1,2,3’s is even harder.
My goal is have each child grow in his or her independence while learning. Respect for adults and peers goes right along with that. They gain confidence from consistency and routine. I can give students all of that. I’d like to think that my years teaching kindergarten can help me decide when to push gently and when not.
Maybe you’ve already heard. I like to cook with the students. I try to cook with each of the letters of the alphabet. It is fun. The students would do it every day if I could.
I anticipate it will be a great year, but then I cannot say there has ever been a bad year with kindergarteners.
